10-minute One Layer Card

I made this card for my nephew who celebrates his first birthday on Wednesday!  I sent his gift last week via Amazon.com.  I realized when I woke up this morning that I needed to mail his card today so that he got it on time.  I already had this card in mind when I received my new stamp set called Fly Away, so I got to work.  I also wanted to keep this one layer so I could play along in Kristina Werner's OLC challenge.  I love one layer cards!

I wanted to have the little airplane flying over the rocks because they remind me of the Granite Dells in AZ (where I used to call home and where my nephew lives).  I stamped the rock ledge from Stampscapes three times across the bottom of the card base.  Then I sponged the clouds on using a little template I created with the SU scallop circle punch.

Here's my template.
I just taped two scallops together
and sponge over them.

I left some white space for my airplane and banner.  Now, I hope Becky Oehlers doesn't mind, but I stamped the banner upside down because I wanted it flying up over the rock formation in this direction.  I just curved the little birthday sentiment on my block to fit the upside down banner.  I think it works this way too.

I sponged a bit more sky around the airplane and then colored it in using my prismacolor pencils and baby oil.  The sentiment is stamped in Pure Poppy.  I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Stamps:  Fly Away (Papertrey Ink), Ledge (Stampscapes)
Paper:  Stampers Select White (PTI)
Ink:  sepia (memories), tuxedo black (memento: tsukineko), pearlescent sky blue (brilliance: tsukineko), pure poppy (PTI)
Accessories:  sponged, su scallop circle punch, prismacolor pencils (crimson red, true blue), baby oil, blending stump, black sharpie for banner cord

WOW, this is really awesome, quite hard to believe it's only one layer, there's so much dimension from just your stamping and sponging! I love how you made those rocks and clouds!

Sara this is awesome, and apparently we were on the same wavelength as I just posted a card using FLy Away for MY nephew's BD! Too funny.
I LOVE those rocks....simply incredible. And very western.
And I love the way you used the banner and sentiment..I too curved the sentiment in the opposite direction for my card.
Great minds think alike!
